Translation Project Management Process
Pre-Translation
Project analysis, including database searches, online consultations, creating new translation memories or leveraging from existing translation memories and glossaries. Then, I select the most suitable translator(s) and editor(s) for the project.
Translation
Once all the relevant information has been compiled, the translation team undertakes the translation process itself.
Editing & Proofing
This process involves an independent review of the translation by a French editor with knowledge of the field of specialization. The editor compares the translated document with the English original to make sure the correct terminologies and expressions are used so the author’s voice is not lost in the French translation.
Final proofreading
The edited translation is reviewed by a French proofreader for accuracy. The proofreader will correct spelling or grammar mistakes and verify that names and numbers are as they were in the source. This important step ensures that, once translated and edited, the document is consistent with the original.
Quality Control
I compare the French translation with the original to make sure that the translation is accurate, complete and formatted correctly. I also read the translation to make sure nothing slipped by the proofreader and that the document is ready to print or publish.
Translation Project Management Technology
For translation project management, we use the most advanced translation memory software, such as Trados™ and SDLX™. This technology allows the entire team to use the same phrases and terminologies throughout the project, no matter how many translators are working on it. These tools allow us to have a faster turnaround time and offer very competitive rates.
How Translation Memory Software Saves You Money
Translation memory software calculates the number of word repetitions in the original document. I take this information to apply a discount to the overall project, which can result in the client saving hundreds or thousands of dollars.
